Common questions about working with Clarity Counselling — virtual therapy, booking, insurance, and treatment approaches. If your question isn't answered here, the free 15-minute consultation is a good place to ask it.
Virtual Therapy & Service Area
Does Clarity Counselling offer in-person sessions? Yes — on a limited basis. Clarity Counselling is primarily virtual, with most sessions held online through secure video. In-person sessions are available by appointment at the Calgary office (Mayfair Place, 6707 Elbow Drive SW, Office #318).
What areas does Clarity Counselling serve? Clarity Counselling serves clients throughout Western Canada, including Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Wherever you're located in the region, you can access therapy from home.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy? Yes. Research consistently shows that online therapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person therapy for most concerns, including trauma, BPD, and anxiety.
What do I need for a virtual therapy session? A private, quiet space and a device with a camera, microphone, and stable internet connection — a computer, tablet, or smartphone all work well. Headphones can add privacy and improve audio.
Getting Started
How do I book a session? You can book directly online through the Book Online link, which takes you to secure Jane App scheduling.
Is the initial consultation really free? Yes. The 15-minute initial consultation is free, with no obligation, so you can see if it feels like the right fit before booking a full session.
Do you accept insurance or extended health benefits? Many extended health plans cover sessions with a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). Check your specific plan for coverage details — receipts are provided for reimbursement. Our guide to insurance coverage for counselling in Canada covers exactly what to ask your insurer.
What happens in a first session? The first session focuses on understanding what's bringing you to therapy, your history and goals, and beginning to build a treatment plan tailored to you.
About Treatment
What therapy approaches do you use? Treatment draws on Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST), EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), DBT, somatic therapy, the Gottman Method, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), tailored to each client's needs.
Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy? No. You can start therapy for any of the concerns described on this site without a formal diagnosis.
How long does therapy typically take? This varies by individual and concern, but many clients notice meaningful changes within the first few months of consistent, skills-based therapy.
