Booking your first therapy session can feel like a big step, especially if you're new to online therapy. Here's exactly what to expect, from booking to your first session.
Step 1: Book a Free 15-Minute Consultation
The process starts with a free, no-obligation 15-minute consultation, booked directly online. This is a chance to briefly share what's bringing you to therapy and ask any questions, before committing to a full session.
Step 2: What Happens During the Consultation
The consultation is a low-pressure conversation, not an assessment or intake in the clinical sense — just a chance to get a feel for whether it seems like a good fit, and to get your questions about the process answered.
Step 3: Booking Your First Full Session
If it feels like a good fit, you'll book your first full session directly through the same online booking system. You'll receive confirmation details, including how to join your virtual session.
Getting Ready for a Virtual Session
A private, quiet space where you won't be interrupted
A device with a camera and microphone — a laptop, tablet, or smartphone all work
A stable internet connection
Headphones, if you'd prefer more privacy or better audio
What Happens in Your First Full Session
Your first session focuses on understanding your history, current concerns, and goals for therapy — the beginning of building a treatment plan tailored specifically to you, not a generic intake form.
Ongoing Sessions
After your first session, you and your therapist will discuss a recommended frequency based on your needs and goals. Most clients start with weekly sessions, adjusting over time as things progress.
Questions Before You Book?
If you're unsure whether therapy is the right fit, or have questions about the process, the free consultation itself is designed exactly for that — there's no obligation, and no pressure to continue if it doesn't feel right.
